Southside Middle School Opens Invitation to Hear Guest Speaker Will Bowen

Will Bowen will speak at Southside Middle School on April 22 & 23 at 6:30 PM.

In July 2006 Will Bowen offered a simple idea for people to monitor their success at eradicating complaining from their lives. His idea exploded around the world and nearly 10 million purple Complaint Free bracelets have been sent to people in more than 106 countries. Bowen has been featured onOprah, NBC's The Today Show, CBS Sunday Morning, The ABC Evening News, Fox News Channel and in hundreds of TV and radio interviews around the world.

Stories about him and the movement he created have been written about in over 200 newspapers, in People, O, and Self magazines and in Chicken Soup for the Soul.

His first book, A Complaint Free World, published in October, 2007 by Doubleday, is an international bestseller . The book has been published in more than 14 foreign countries to date and is an audio book, read by Bowen, published by Random House Audio. His second book, Complaint Free Relationships, was published December 2009 by Doubleday.

Youth hockey tournament applications being accepted

Manchester’s Parks, Recreation & Cemetery Division is pleased to announce that the 2016 Clement M. Lemire Hockey Tournament will begin in March. Named for the long-time Parks Superintendent who initiated the event, the tournament makes use of the city's two ice arenas to allow elementary and middle school students to compete in a fun city-wide event. The tournament will begin immediately following the conclusion of the high school season. Applications are currently being distributed to all public and parochial schools and is also available below. The Tournament will have two age groups: elementary, consisting of 3rd , 4th and 5th grades; and middle school, for 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Applications must be returned to the schools by Thursday, February 18, 2016. No applications will be accepted after this date. Principal McCafferty receives inaugural SNHU Loeffler Prize

Hillside Middle School principal Brendan McCafferty is the first ever recipient of Southern New Hampshire University's newly established Loeffler Prize, recognizing those who have unselfishly and generously contributed their time and talents for the enrichment of others and the betterment of their community. In the description of the award, SNHU says honorees set an example for the spirit of generosity, everyday contributions, sometime heroism, and perseverance. Mr. McCafferty was honored in part for his hard work to build a network of opportunities for his students across the city of Manchester. He has been an instrumental champion in the work of local nonprofit BRING IT!, an acronym of the program’s full name: “Bringing Refugees, Immigrants and Neighbors Gently Into Tomorrow.” An average of 100 kids attend the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions after school, which started at Hillside and is now also offered and hosted by the Middle School at Parkside.
