Get Moving Manchester 2016!

Get Moving Manchester
We are proud to announce our annual Get Moving Manchester program, a 4-week nutrition and physical activity program journal for students in grades 3-6 based on the 5-2-1-0 concept. The program begins on Monday, March 28 and ends on Friday, April 22. This program demonstrates how parents, guardians and teachers can play a major role in influencing the overall health and wellness of our children/students. By making smart choices together, parents and teachers can set an example for a healthy lifestyle. Research shows that children’s behaviors are learned through the observation of others.

Here’s how the program works:

Schools will distribute a log to track each student’s progress. Each week students will track a different healthy goal each week. Students will receive weekly incentives when they complete their weekly logs. At the end of the 4 weeks, there will be a grand prize raffle and trophy for the school with highest participation.

What are the 5-2-1-0 goals for a healthy lifestyle?
  • Eat 5 or more servings of fruits and veggies everyday.
  • Spend 2 hours or less watching television, movies, playing computer games, or texting.
  • Get at least 1 hour of physical activity throughout the day every day.
  • Have 0 soda or sweetened drinks each day. Drink lowfat/nonfat milk or water.

WANTED: Community professionals to participate in Career Day

On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, Manchester High School West is hosting a school-wide Career Day. The structure will be different from similar events that often follow a "career fair"-type format in which professionals representing various fields set up displays and wait to be approached by interested students. At West, every teacher will be matched with a guest speaker related to his or her subject area. For example, in the math department, one teacher may host an accountant while other math teachers host a stockbroker or a carpenter. Students will follow their regular schedules and be introduced to a different career field with each class change. Speakers are asked to give a hands-on or interactive presentation to the classes they meet. West is offering full-day and half-day sessions for interested professionals. Lunch will be provided in all sessions. Full day. 7:15 am - 3:00 pm Morning only, 7:l5 am - 11:30 am Afternoon only, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Members of the com...
