West High School was in lockdown for almost two hours today while police searched inside for a person who was reported to have a weapon. School administrators immediately put their emergency safety procedures in place, which includes locking down the building. That means no one could enter or leave the school, and students and teachers remained in their classrooms.
“Staff and teachers followed the protocols they have practiced, stayed calm and kept everyone safe,” said Superintendent Dr. Debra Livingston. “We are grateful for the assistance from the Manchester Police Department and are very happy that this incident was resolved quickly.”
Police located the suspect in question, as well as the weapon, which was identified as a pellet gun. The lockdown was lifted soon after.
