District names new transportation coordinator

Superintendent Bolgen Vargas has named Kelly O’Brien-Hebert the new transportation coordinator for the Manchester School District. O’Brien-Hebert’s nomination was approved by the Board of School Committee this week, and her appointment is effective immediately.

O’Brien-Hebert arrives at the central office from her most recent position as administrative assistant for student services at Manchester High School West. Some of her duties in that role included preparing transportation requests and coordinating adjustments.

“My experience in the student services office gave me the opportunity to learn a great deal about the transportation of our students and the challenges that go along with it,” said O’Brien-Hebert. “My desire to grow with the Manchester School District while continuing to provide services for our students made this job a natural choice for me.”

The district-wide transportation coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of school transportation, including routes, schedules and special requests. O’Brien Hebert will work closely with the Manchester Transportation Authority and Easter Seals Special Transit Services, which provide the school buses for Manchester students, as well as all of Manchester’s schools.

WANTED: Community professionals to participate in Career Day

On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, Manchester High School West is hosting a school-wide Career Day. The structure will be different from similar events that often follow a "career fair"-type format in which professionals representing various fields set up displays and wait to be approached by interested students. At West, every teacher will be matched with a guest speaker related to his or her subject area. For example, in the math department, one teacher may host an accountant while other math teachers host a stockbroker or a carpenter. Students will follow their regular schedules and be introduced to a different career field with each class change. Speakers are asked to give a hands-on or interactive presentation to the classes they meet. West is offering full-day and half-day sessions for interested professionals. Lunch will be provided in all sessions. Full day. 7:15 am - 3:00 pm Morning only, 7:l5 am - 11:30 am Afternoon only, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Members of the com
