Meet the Wilson Elementary School principal candidates on Thursday

Parents, teachers and interested members of the public will have a chance to meet and hear from the finalists being considered for the top post at Henry Wilson Elementary School. The school district is hosting a community forum to introduce the two candidates and offer an opportunity for the public to ask questions.

The invited candidates are Polly Golden, currently director of federal projects and professional development for Manchester School District; and Chris MacDonald, currently assistant principal at Northwest Elementary School in Manchester since 2008. Prior to coming to Manchester in 2012, Golden was principal at Milton Elementary School in Milton, New Hampshire.

Their experience includes curriculum development and implementation, school improvement initiatives, and educator evaluations. Both Golden and MacDonald were classroom teachers earlier in their careers.

“When we have two strong candidates for a principal position, forums like this have proven to be a wonderful way to further involve our families and faculty in selecting the best leader for their school,” said Superintendent Debra Livingston. “It’s also a valuable part of the interview process for the candidates to meet members of the school community.”

WANTED: Community professionals to participate in Career Day

On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, Manchester High School West is hosting a school-wide Career Day. The structure will be different from similar events that often follow a "career fair"-type format in which professionals representing various fields set up displays and wait to be approached by interested students. At West, every teacher will be matched with a guest speaker related to his or her subject area. For example, in the math department, one teacher may host an accountant while other math teachers host a stockbroker or a carpenter. Students will follow their regular schedules and be introduced to a different career field with each class change. Speakers are asked to give a hands-on or interactive presentation to the classes they meet. West is offering full-day and half-day sessions for interested professionals. Lunch will be provided in all sessions. Full day. 7:15 am - 3:00 pm Morning only, 7:l5 am - 11:30 am Afternoon only, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Members of the com
