Interim principal of Central High School named

Former Manchester Central High School principal John Rist is returning to the post on a temporary basis. Superintendent of Schools Debra Livingston named Rist interim principal of Central, effective immediately, until a permanent principal is hired.

“John Rist is Central Pride, through and through,” Dr. Livingston said. “We are very pleased he is available to help our students and faculty in this transition.”

Rist served as Central’s principal from 2002 to 2012, and is credited with steering the school toward much of its academic success and strong morale. When he heard Central needed help, he didn’t hesitate to come out of retirement.

“Anything I can do for these kids and teachers, I’m willing to do it,” Rist said. “I’m looking forward to getting back in the saddle at Central, renewing old friendships and making new ones.” 

Last year, Rist took on a similar interim role at West High School before its current principal filled the position.

WANTED: Community professionals to participate in Career Day

On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, Manchester High School West is hosting a school-wide Career Day. The structure will be different from similar events that often follow a "career fair"-type format in which professionals representing various fields set up displays and wait to be approached by interested students. At West, every teacher will be matched with a guest speaker related to his or her subject area. For example, in the math department, one teacher may host an accountant while other math teachers host a stockbroker or a carpenter. Students will follow their regular schedules and be introduced to a different career field with each class change. Speakers are asked to give a hands-on or interactive presentation to the classes they meet. West is offering full-day and half-day sessions for interested professionals. Kindergarten and new first grade registration dates announced

Kindergarten and New First Grade Registration Dates Announced Manchester’s elementary schools will be accepting registrations for kindergarten and new first grade students in April.  Students currently attending MSD’s pre-school programs do not have to register for kindergarten at their neighborhood school ; those records will be transferred.  Not sure which is your neighborhood school?  Find it HERE .
