FIRST wins $25,000 to benefit Junior STEAM Ahead

With a $25,000 grant on the line and with judges voting in real time, five nonprofit organizations made their final three-minute pitches to members and guests of the Entrepreneurs Foundation of New Hampshire (EFNH) during the EFNH AMP NH Award Competition last night at Dyn in Manchester. EFNH members and guests voted for nonprofit projects based on anticipated “amplified benefits” for the organizations and communities they serve. FIRST of Manchester, which provides innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in the STEM fields, received the most votes to win the $25,000 grant. PUBLIC INVITATION: Art Show at West High School

Self-portrait , graphite Benson Yu, 2014 A public art exhibit will be on display at Manchester High School West on Wednesday, May 27 from 5:00-7:00 pm. This event is free to all and will have music, refreshments and hundreds of art pieces to enjoy.  Art show attendees should use the school's main entrance located on Notre Dame Avenue. The show will be held on the second floor outside of the library.  Support has been provided by West High School, the 104th chapter of the National Art Honor Society, Maine College of Art and the New Hampshire Institute of Art. 

Manchester students among Youth Leadership Academy grads

Fifteen Manchester public school students were among those who received a Certificate of Completion from Manchester Police Chief David Mara and a proclamation from Mayor Ted Gatsas for their successful participation in the Spring 2015 Youth Leadership Academy. The Academy's youngest graduate, 10-year-old Mirza Kruscica, and his mother Anela Created by the Community Advisory Board and run by the Manchester Police Department, the purpose of the Academy is to identify and encourage future leaders for the City of Manchester.  Through seven weeks of classroom activities, field trips, and guest speakers, students learn about the Manchester community, its history and diversity, youth services, the NH judicial system, various law enforcement agencies, community policing, City and State government, and leadership skills. STEAM Ahead NH registration is open!

The STEAM Ahead NH program at West High School is an innovative educational experience in Manchester. Current eighth grade students from any middle school are welcome to register for next year's class. All you have to do is sign up online , and STEAM Ahead NH will contact you with more information.

New address for Gossler Park

To more accurately reflect its location, Gossler Park Elementary School requested and was approved for a change of address from the City of Manchester.  The new street address is  145 Parkside Avenue.

2015 Science Fair Results

Congratulations to Jacob Correa of Smyth Road School for earning top honors at the New Hampshire state science fair! His "How to Freeze Water" project wowed the judges and ranked first among the 20 entrants. Manchester's other fourth grade contenders were Dana Leclair of Gossler Park School with "Density Tower;" Adam Brodeur of Green Acres School with "How Rust Forms;" and  Sadie Olsen of Highland-Goffe’s Falls School with her project, "The Effects of Acid Rain." Sadie won first place at the Manchester Science Fair. The top four city finishers attended the state competition. Elementary schools across Manchester participated in the 22nd annual fair, sponsored by Manchester Water Works.
