Superintendent of Schools Bolgen Vargas has named Southside Middle School principal Jennifer Gillis the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Her appointment was approved by the Board of School Committee at last night’s meeting.
Gillis has served as principal of Southside since July of 2014, when she arrived in Manchester after six years as assistant principal at Mountain View Middle School in Goffstown. In addition to her experience as a building administrator, Gillis has spent nearly 15 years teaching, mentoring, coaching and advocating for students in public education. Previously, she worked in the field of brain injury rehabilitation.
“Mrs. Gillis has been a tremendous asset to the Southside community in working with faculty, students and families to reach academic and developmental goals at the middle school level,” said Dr. Vargas. “Her leadership in this area will be valuable as we continue to improve student achievement across the district.”
Gillis will use the rest of the school year to transition into her new role full time next month. A new principal of Southside Middle School will be named soon.
